Common questions about our porcelain paving services.
Porcelain is non-porous, meaning it does not absorb water, stains or algae. It will not crack in frost, requires no sealing and cleans easily with water. You get consistent colour and texture across every tile, and it stays looking new for longer with minimal effort.
Quality outdoor porcelain has a textured surface that provides good grip, even when wet. We recommend R11 rated tiles for patios and can advise on higher-grip options for steps and slopes. Porcelain is generally safer than polished stone when wet.
Porcelain requires a solid, stable base and specialist adhesive (not sand and cement like traditional paving). The sub-base is prepared, a screed or concrete slab is laid, then tiles are fixed with exterior-grade adhesive and grouted. This technique ensures tiles stay firmly in place.
Yes, with the right preparation. Porcelain rated at 20mm thickness can handle vehicle loads when laid on a properly prepared base. We can advise whether porcelain is suitable for your driveway project.
